Introducing our February Mom of the Month, Vanessa Martin!

Vanessa joined Fit4Mom in March 2017 with her baby girl Alivia. She has participated in Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre, Body Back Workout, and now the Get Fit Challenge 2018. She gracefully balances work, homeschooling, workouts, and motherhood like a champion. She is super sweet and very easy going. She is truly an inspiring woman to know!

Tell us about you and your family.

Interesting story...we're a blended family...and not your typical blended family. I have two kiddos, Kameron (12) & Ava (10), and they have different dads. (Yes, I'm on my third marriage...ha!) My husband, Randall, and I have been married 3 years--together for almost 6, and we have a little girl, Alivia (1). We're hoping for one more baby soon! Kameron plays electric guitar and is a huge fan of 80s hair bands (Guns n Roses is his fave!), Ava loves to draw & dance (lyrical is her fave), and Alivia is currently obsessed with Mommy & Mickey Mouse. My husband and I run a family real estate team here in Pearland, The Martin Group, and his step mother & my mother work for us. They ROCK! We also just started homeschooling our 12 year old (Kameron), who has ADHD. So far, it's been an amazing adventure!

How did you hear about Fit4Mom Pearland and what made you start going?

I'm pretty sure I found it somehow on social media...maybe the Mom's of Pearland FB group. I scrolled through the FB page, and it looked like so much fun, so I inquired with Elizabeth. I had just had Alivia, and wanted a way to get out and meet other Moms. Honestly, I was starting to feel a little isolated and depressed since I wasn't working much anymore (I'm a former workaholic), and I knew I needed to get out ASAP! I wanted to meet some new Mamas and get active again!

What is your favorite thing about motherhood?

Everyday is different, and I get to have a special part in shaping the future...sometimes that can also be a little nerve wrecking LOL...my kids keep me on my toes, and probably teach me more than I teach them!

What are some of your favorite things to do without kids?

Life without kids...what is that!? Ha! SLEEP! Spend time with my husband, read, draw or paint, write, hang out with friends, or go to concerts!

What TV show are you currently watching or book are you reading?

Just finished Game of Thrones, and am EAGERLY awaiting the next season! And books?...what book am I not reading?! My family utilizes the library ALOT...as in we have about 20-50 books checked out at any given time. We're also regulars at half-price books, and I have to bring a box lots of times when I go there to shop. I even have a kindle paper white, and it's filled with books too! Currently:

Homeschooling for the rest of Us by Sonya Haskins

The unschooling handbook: How to use the whole world as your child's classroom by Mary Griffith

Present over Perfect by Shauna Niequist

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis (reading this one aloud with my son)

What are some of your favorite Moms Night Outs and play groups?

I love going to places like Painting with a twist or Pinot's Palette...pretty much anything crafty or creative is right up my alley. As far as play groups go, Fit4Mom Pearland is my go to!

What advice do you have for other moms?

Mostly I just want Mom's to know this: You are doing enough. You are a great Mama, and you're babies will be fine...whether you breastfeed or not, work or stay home, are a crunchy mom, helicopter mom or hot mess mom, etc! Let go of the worry & comparisons...Soak in all the cuddles and snuggles, all the laughter and special conversations--because inevitably those babies grow up! And they will remember all the good stuff & all the love. Take time for yourself when you need a break...so you don't go mad. And get some other supportive Mama friends to share the ups & downs with. You are strong, and you totally ROCK!!!
