September Mom of the Month - Shayne

Meet our September Mom of the Month, Shayne Bicol!

Shayne is one of the sweetest mama’s! She’s always the first one to say hello to everyone, especially a new mom joining us for the first time. She always comes to class, ready to work out and she kills it every time! We love having her apart of our village and we hope she knows just how special and loved she is! Congratulations, Shayne! Keep on shining!

I always love seeing Shayne’s name on my class roster, she always brings a smile and warmth to class. She is always quick to introduce herself to new members making them feel welcome and without fail greets her fellow veteran mamas checking in on how they are doing in life. She is beyond generous, lending a helping hand to those in need. I am so grateful for her!

Tell us who makes up your family. Where are you from? What brought you to Pearland?

My family consists of me, my husband Kevin, and our daughter Abigail. I grew up in a small town called Brownsville, Texas. I initially moved to the Houston area for a job in The Medical Center. I chose to reside in Pearland so I can explore activities and opportunities in Houston while conveniently still living in the suburbs.

What is your proudest mommy moment?

I don't have a specific proud moment. It's always those little moments when Abigail looks at me with a big smile that shows she's really happy to be with me that makes me proud of being her mother. She just brightens everyone's day with that smile!

What are a few of your favorite things?

I like playing volleyball, singing, dancing, and cuddling with Abigail.

What surprised you most about motherhood? What advice would you give a new mom?

I thought motherhood was going to hinder me from having a social life but it did the opposite. I met so many new friends from being a mom. I experienced so many new activities from exploring programs offered for parents and children. My baby was easily calm and content at joining me with my usual hobbies. I would advise new mothers to keep their babies engaged with people, exposed to regular noise, and included in their activities if possible. Learn with them such as how I'm learning Spanish alongside Abigail by reading bilingual board books and following along with Spanish programs for babies. It's not just about teaching your baby what you know. It's more about learning and growing with them.

What do you love about FIT4MOM? What would you say to a new mom who is thinking about coming to class?

I love how FIT4MOM gave Abigail and I a new hobby and something to look forward to in the mornings. We used to wake up close to noon and there goes half of our day. But now there's something that will get our mornings started with high energy. What a great way to start our day out and about and exercising with friends! It helps me build strength and endurance. It's nice to share experiences and advise with other mothers. It's also nice to have our kids develop friendships with each other.
